burp cloths

Lilly is a spit-up baby. Big time. And not just a little bit; but often and much.  I don't dare leave home with less than three spit-up cloths in the bag.  Her biggest sister was a reflux baby and I'm afraid Lilly is not far behind. 

So I needed a few more "presentable" (read "not total rags") burp cloths and did not want to dip into the super tight budget to get them.  I tried to think of what I had that was pretty yet absorbent, and came up with what you see above.  Sort of mini flannel blankets trimmed with fabrics I had in my stash. They measure 16" x 20" and are made with some nice thick flannel that I had leftover from making cloth wipes and nursing pads. (I trimmed them using one of these fun toys, which made it a very quick project.) I'm thrilled with how they turned out and I think I'll make a few more. :-)

 

a hand-me-down

I made this little dress for Rose four years ago.  I am so glad that another little Cantrell girl gets to use it.  Love those dimples too. :-)

 

a donation

 

Anna had been growing her hair out for some time now with the plan of donating it to Locks of Love.  A few days ago we finally got around to going to get it cut.  I usually cut her hair (and all the others), but for this special occasion I told her that we would go to a real salon.

She is still talking about how much fun she had getting it cut and says she is growing it to donate again just so we can go back. Awesome.

 

egg-heads

This was a quick and fun little spring project for the kids.  I took the tops off of the eggs and rinsed them out. The kids then drew on faces, filled them with potting soil and planted a generous layer of wheat seeds.  The wheat grows very fast and you don't need much (It can be found at most health food stores.).  The above picture is only 5 days after planting!

After several days, some of the kids wanted to give their egg-heads hair cuts.  Collin gave his a mohawk, naturally. :-)

After much deliberation, I have decided to use my kids' real names in this blog.  Names are a big thing to me.  I always feel a crushing weight of responsibility when it comes to naming a new baby (and therefore put it off until 8.5 months along... much to my husband's frustration) knowing that this is the name he or she will bear for all eternity.

Our kid's names all come from family, the Bible and/or favorite saints and each holds a special meaning for us. We like them. (The names and the kids.) It is also been frustrating when family and friends say things like "I thought it was your blog, but I wasn't sure because I didn't recognize any of the kid's names".

I guess the bottom line is, I have never gotten totally comfortable with the whole blog-alias thing, so I give up. :-)
