Last Friday, we went on an interesting nature walk. My dad had spotted a large nest across the sugar cane field from his house, and he suggested we hike over to it. In the blurry (blurry because of the distance) photo above, you can barely make out the owner of the nest perched on its edge.
You can see from this shot, how far away yet how large the nest is.
The birds flew off as we approached, but I am hoping to go back soon and see if I can't get a better shot of them. We have developed quite a fascination of raptors over the last few years. This book has helped us greatly in our effort to know these amazing creatures better. We are guessing (by looking through the binoculars) that the residents are most likely some type of red tail hawk like the one below.
This is an Eastern red tail (taken last fall) leaving the trees that border our back field.
