I love aprons. I think I always have. I have a ridiculously large collection of vintage ones. To me, they symbolize cheerful service to family and a love of vocation. I have made many aprons over the years, but I think I have a new favorite pattern! It is from Simplicity #4282, view E. It's the perfect length and cut for me.
I used a medium weight drapery fabric, for my version. Instead of ties around the neck, I substituted a button and button-hole with a single strap. There is much less bulk behind my head this way. I almost never unbutton it to put it on; I just slip it over my head.
I really like the pocket detail that this pattern called for. It is so sweet and feminine!
The fabric I used is Parkgate Trellis from Flappergirl Fabrics. I had only ordered 1 yard, and the pattern called for 1 1/8, so it was a tight squeeze after the pre-wash and dry. I like it though; I really wanted a fabric that would hold up well and still be pretty. The pocket is a scrap that I had leftover from this fabric after making the kitchen curtains. (Sorry for the crummy photos... no sun again!)
If you are not up to stitching one yourself, check out Flappergirl's Sliced Bread Retro Aprons. Too cute!
